The Brief
Due to our linear design system, excessive waste is being generated due to excessive consumption and disposal. Much of the issue stems from companies and individuals being ignorant to the damage we are causing our planet, the biosphere and our health. Following the recent global pandemic and rising living costs, it is becoming more important for products to have longevity and for consumers to take care of the belongings they currently have.
Emotional durability is a concept which aims to enhance products and reduce waste through generating an emotional attachment between objects and people. This document discusses how emotional attachments impacts both a products life cycle and the end user, how designers encourage emotional attachments to occur, and what methods of generating emotional bonds are most successful.
